A new name on the BBG Cricket Cup TTC clean up in their first appearance at the annual BBG Cricket Competition Watford - 8th July 2009: There is a new name on the BBG Cricket challenge Cup after TTC of Solihull recorded a fine victory in their first year of entering, narrowly beating last year's runners up Shahsonic into second place again. The 2009 event was even more keenly contested than previous years, with more teams participating than ever and the standard of cricket reaching a higher level than before. Hosted at the magnificent Tring Park Cricket Club each of the 8 teams competed in two leagues of 4, with the top teams going forward to contest the trophy while the runners up played off for the BBG Plate.
After weeks of glorious weather the outlook for the day was less favourable with thunderstorms predicted for the afternoon, however the rain stayed away throughout the day much to the delight of the teams and spectators alike. In the 6 a side, 5 over format the games were packed full of incident and excitement with the final rightly contested by the best 2 teams on the day – TTC & Shahsonic. In the end it was Ian Takhars boys that took the victory in a keenly contested finale, leaving John Shah’s team as runners up again – having lost out in 2008 to Empire. The team from Solihull were clearly delighted to win and even a champagne soaking from Gordon could not dampen their exuberance. The final of the plate was between the BBG ‘Allstars’ and Hughes Electrical with the Lowestoft based retailer winning through in a tight battle. The day featured a number of other activities whilst BBG provided food and refreshments for all the players and spectators who attended. With the competition firmly part of the annual calendar for many dealers plans are already in hand for an even bigger and better event in 2010.
