Leonards Electrical win BBG Training

Gordon Dutch sets out to prove staff training can add turnover and profit to any Independent

WATFORD - 12th August 2008 - Business is slow... Stores are quiet... Turnover and profit are down... The dreaded credit crunch is upon us... So what better time to invest in staff training so that your store obtains the maximum benefit from each and every customer that walks through the door?

That's the thinking of BBG and the reason why they teamed up with ERT to offer one lucky Independent the opportunity to receive specific, targeted training and support.  This not only includes training on the features of the essential accessories that BBG supply, but also on advanced sales techniques to increase attachment rates and identify additional opportunities.  And in addition the winner receives £250 of AV accessories free of charge, along with POS and display solutions and the benefit of BBG's knowledge of in store merchandising and placement for maximum effect.

Dealers were invited to explain in less than 100 words why they felt they could benefit from this support and the winner was Brian Bellerby from the Leonards Electrical store in Hartlepool who said "As a whole Leonards Electrical deal a lot with BBG and sell a wide range of BBG products, with my background from retail in companies like Comet I feel Leonards could benefit from accessories training to improve not only our sales but also present the right products to our customers for the right equipment. With the training BBG can offer I'm sure we can do this as team, which can help to motivate us all to sell add-ons to each sale, which in turn will benefit the whole business."

However the story doesn't end there....  When the owner of the business found out his Hartlepool store had won he was so delighted that he asked BBG to extend the training to all 5 of the stores in the company - a request that BBG were only to happy to oblige.  Darren Hornsey, Director of Leonards, commented: "We're really pleased to have 'won' the BBG training. I have heard Gordon Dutch speak many times and always come away inspired. So hopefully his passion for what he does will rub off on my staff - even just a little bit! Training is vitally important if we want to stay ahead of our competition so we are very excited and looking forward to it."

The pressure is now on BBG to deliver on their claims that their training and merchandising will increase attachment rates for accessories and raise the average value of this part of the sale - all of which means more turnover for the store and of course additional profit.  It's a tall order in the current economic climate, but there's no company in the industry as passionate and enthusiastic about accessories than BBG, so if anyone can do it it's them.
